Sponsored Walk charity annouced

By Slough Town Supporters Trust, Feb 7 2020 08:55AM

Slough Town Supporters Trust is delighted to confirm that this year's Sponsored Walk charity will be Aik Saath. We think that this fits perfectly with the #OneSlough project run by the Club because Aik Saath means "Together As One" in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu.

It's difficult to know where to begin when describing what Aik Saath do. Based in central Slough, they run a host of projects aimed at helping people across the community such as providing training in local schools, colleges and youth groups, and working with projects on community cohesion to help support young people who need it, prevent gang violence, extremism, knife crime and drug use, among others. They do this by creating alternate activities for young people who may have nowhere else to go, for example providing support to help with studies and getting into work, training young volunteers to work with schools and community groups, running football sessions to bring together different areas of the community, and supporting young carers, to a name a few.

It is the young carers area that we have been asked to support with the funds from the walk this year. By providing activities for children who have to care for family members, Aik Saath are trying to help these children to get back some of their childhood. We think it's a very worthy cause. You can find out more about this project at https://sloughyoungcarers.org/

You can find out more about Aik Saath and the work that they do on their website http://www.aiksaath.com and we'll be joining them at a couple of their activities over the coming months to help promote the charity and the walk. Aik Saath are hoping to join us at a home match soon and on the walk too.

So please get involved with the Sponsored Walk from Chalfont St Peter FC to St Albans City FC on April 18th. Sponsor forms and posters will be available soon, but you can sign up now by getting in touch by email or on social media, or at any home match.
